Follow the steps below to learn how to use the plug-in:

  1. To install the plug-in, just double click on the installer to begin. Please note that you have to quit Adobe Premiere Application during the installation.

  2. After install this plug-in then launch Premiere, you will see a new file type "Flash SWF File (*.swf)" added in the Import File dialog box. Try to import some SWF files into your Premiere project, then you will see the SWF files being add to project window:

  3. You may drag the SWF clips from the Project windows to any video tracks in the Timeline window. Double-clicking on the SWF clip(either from Project or Timeline Window) will invoke an option dialog box for this SWF clip as follows:

There are three options in this dialog box : "Sequence mode", "Maximum length" and "Keep aspect ratio". Any change of these three options will delete the video preview files that are affected by this clip.
    • "Sequence mode" specify the frame rendering sequence of the SWF clip. Two type modes are supported :
      • "Frame by frame" -- This is the default mode. Rendering video frames by following the frame sequences in Flash main timeline. Therefore, action scripts may not work correctly in some cases.
      • "Normal" -- Rendering video frames by following the Flash movie's playback sequence including movie clips and action scripts. The rendering behavior of this mode just likes the Flash Player play SWF file except for that all interactions cannot work. However, movie clips and action scripts work correctly.
    • "Maximum length" specifies the SWF clip's maximum frame number. The SWF clip in Premiere's timeline window can be extended to any length below this limit. Therefore, you can specify any value in this and the maximum value depends on the Premiere's limitation. So you may give a big number in this field if you'd like to extend the swf clips. This setting applies to both the "Frame by frame" and "Normal" mode. You can see the source file length in the "Original length" field of clip properties dialog box. For all Adobe Premiere Pro users(6.0/6.5 users are not included), if you change the Maximum Length setting , then you need to close and re-open the project window once to reflect the changes.
    • "Keep aspect ratio" If you choose to keep aspect ratio, the output video frames will look likes zoom in/out of the original SWF file. If not, the contents of SWF clip will be stretched to fit the output video frame's dimension. The following figures shows the difference :

  4. Using the plug-in's powerful capability of rendering alpha channel, you can have your SWF clips overlap/transpierce any other clips or Premiere materials easily. You can enable the mask of SWF clip by setting the 'Key type' of Transparency Settings dialog box to "Alpha Channel".
  5. You can see the SWF file's detailed information and current option settings in the clip properties dialog box (right mouse click on the clip then select "Properties") as follows :

Special note for Adobe Premiere Pro users

For all Adobe Premiere Pro users(Premiere 6.0/6.5 users are not included), if you change the frame number of Maximum Length setting in the SWF clip's Option Dialog Box(invoke by double-click on the SWF clip either from Project or Timeline Window), you need to close and re-open the project window once to reflect the changes.
